From the popular Marvel Comics title, Miles Morales is making his way from the comic book page to the TV screen on Disney XD’s Ultimate Spider-Man episode, ‘Web Warriors.’ This is a good opportunity to find out why comedic actor Donald Glover, also known as rapper Childish Gambino, is perfect casting as the amazing wall-crawler.
As we mentioned here, Miles is finally making his appearance on the TV screen. Much like the highly anticipated event, Spider-verse, Spider-Man will meet with his different incarnations, from the past, present and future. Here are five reasons to be excited about the Community actor voicing the popular Marvel superhero.
5) The Online Campaign Worked!
The 30 Rock writer started a campaign on his official Twitter to land an audition for the main role of The Amazing Spider-Man. If you notice in the first installment, the rap star’s poster is hanging on the wall of Parker (Andrew Garfield)’s bedroom. There was even an easter on Community where Glover wore the original costume.
4) His Comedic Timing Rocks!
In the latest issue of Marvel Comics’ Miles Morales: Spider-Man, our teen superhero faces off against the monstrous Green Goblin. As the hero and villain face off against each other, Goblin roars as he states, “I am your creator.” In costume, Miles responds, “Daddy?” We need a comedian with excellent timing to deliver those snappy lines.
3) The Times Are Changing! Get Used To It!
In a video interview with Hard Knock TV, the rapper discusses the negative reaction and racism he met after campaigning as Black Spider-Man. Gambino remembers when a hater told him, “‘There’s no black kids like Peter Parker.’ And that infuriated me! It’s f—king 2011 and you don’t think there’s a black kid who lives with his aunt in Queens, who likes science? It made me mad!”
2) Where will Miles Show Up Next?
If the two-part story arc is a ratings hit, will Miles Morales show up on the big screen? Who will take over after Andrew Garfield’s contract ends after the next Amazing Spider-Man movie?
