In this latest “Game of Thrones,” sweet vengeance is a common reward in the battle for the Iron Throne. Just when you had them figured out, despicable people unexpectedly turn into sympathetic characters. Let’s find out what our fan-favorite characters learned during “And Now His Watch Is Ended.”
(Spoilers Ahead!)
When we last left Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), his sword hand was chopped off. His chopped hand is now hanging around his neck, as if it were a necklace. Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) looks at Jaime as if she is worried about him. After a long travel, Jamie falls off his horse and lands on mud. When Jaime asks for water, he is tricked into drinking horse urine. While the other captors laugh, Jaime snatches one of their swords. Jaime can still swing a sword with the other hand, but he’s not hurting anyone. After being beaten to a pulp, Locke (Noah Taylor) warns Jaime, “Do that again and I’ll take the other hand.”
Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) goes to Lord Varys (Conleth Hill) to speak about the events of Blackwater. Tyrion has no idea of what his sister’s deadly intentions are. He has no proof but only whispers. Without any influence, Tyrion can hardly do anything about it. Varys explains to Tyrion that it’s not about influence, only patience. Varys came from the slums and ended up in the council chamber. He has wanted revenge against a sorcerer and now that same man is his prisoner. Varys smiles as he notices the sorcerer’s lips are stitched together.
In his black magic dream, Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) is running across, chasing after the three-eyed raven. He climbs up the tallest tree that never seems to end. Just when he is about to reach the raven, his mother suddenly appears, warning him about climbing. After shaking him, Bran falls to his death and wakes up scared. Elsewhere, Theon (Alfie Allen) falls into a trap by his rescuer. Ramsay (Iwan Rheon) lead Theon in a full circle, taking him back to the torture chamber.
As Margery (Natalie Dormer) and King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) continue their macabre romance, she teaches him a valuable lesson about people. Margery preaches, “Give the people your love and they will return it.” The massive crowd is cheering for them both and Joffrey seems to enjoy it. Cersei (Lena Headey) doesn’t like how Margery is manipulating Joffrey and tells this to her father. Tywin (Charles Dance) is pleased with this because at least someone can. If he has to, Tywin will stop Joffrey from doing what he likes.
There is a spider in the garden when Margery’s grandmother (Diana Rigg) meets with Varys. They both have interest in Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Varys cares about her well-being. Littlefinger is the most dangerous man in Westeros. Sansa is the key to the North and Littlefinger would most likely kidnap her to be his bride. Littlefinger would watch the country burn and Varys doesn’t want that to happen. Margery wants Sansa to marry her brother, so that they can be sisters. But, is this another trick to use Sansa?
Jaime refuses to eat because he is dying. Brienne tells him he cannot die. He is actually meant to live to take revenge. She calls him a coward for whining and quitting when he faces misfortune. As Jaime devours a piece of bread, Brienne asks, “Why did you help me?” Jaime continues eating and doesn’t respond.
The Night’s Watch holds a funeral for a fallen Ranger. Because of starvation, he died eating his own foot. They would rather face mutiny than starve to death themselves. As the Rangers end up fighting each other, Sam (John Bradley) rescues Gilly (Hannah Murray) and runs away with her.
The Hound (Rory McCann) has been taken prisoner by the Brotherhood Without Banners. The Hound says he is not a murderer, but Aarya (Maisie Williams) gives testimony that he murdered her friend Micah, the butcher’s boy. The Hound is judged guilty and he must fight to the death against Beric Dondarrion (David Michael Scott).
When Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) is given her army, she orders her soldiers to kill the slave owners and anyone who has whipped them. Her dragon then burns the slave master alive. Even though she offered the soldiers their freedom, none of them leave and they all ride off with Daenerys.
All hell broke loose as Daenerys unleashed only one of her dragons. Who is going to stop the White Walkers now that the Night’s Watch has disbanded? Fans will have to wait and see what happens in next week’s episode of “Game Of Thrones.”
