After kicking off its season premiere, “Game of Thrones” continues with its foreboding hints of trouble to come. A few of the missing fan-favorite characters return into the fold, with some interesting new ones joining along the way. With a lot of setup to cover, let’s see what happened in “Dark Wings, Dark Words.”

In his black magic dream, Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) sees himself running across the woods. The three-eyed crow flies across and sits high on top of a tree. Bran takes out his bow, steadies his arrow, and waits for the right moment. Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Robb (Richard Madden) suddenly appear to him, giving him much-needed guidance. After missing his shot, Bran hears the voice of his father, Ned Stark (Sean Bean). Bran wakes up to a sad revelation; the route to The Wall is still a long way off. While on his journey, Bran encounters two strangers who have been searching for him for a long time.

Theon Turncloak (Alfie Allen) wakes up to find himself trapped in a torture chamber. Theon doesn’t know where he is or who has kidnapped him. Theon’s torturer wants important information from him; something which Theon may or may not have. Even after confessing what he knows, the torturer stabs Theon’s finger with a knife and drills his foot with a screw. Theon has to wait and endure much more pain before his sister can rescue him.

While on their way to King’s Landing, Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) is holding Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau )as her prisoner. Even while being tied by a rope, Jaime is trying to get inside Brienne’s head. A stranger passes by and speaks to them. If Jaime is recognized, this could spell trouble for both of them. Jaime tempts Brienne to kill the innocent stranger, but this distraction was part of his plan to get to her sword. At the bridge, Jaime and Brienne fight to the death, swinging their swords at each other. This swordfight was the major highlight of the episode! Their duel is rudely interrupted by noble men from the House of Bolton.

While dressing her up, Shae (Sibel Kekilli) speaks to Sansa (Sophie Turner) about Littlefinger. Shae warns Sansa about Littlefinger taking advantage of her. Worried about her, Shae risks visiting Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) because she feels Sansa needs protecting. While Shae is seducing Tyrion, Sansa visits Margery (Natalie Dormer) and her grandmother, the Queen of Thorns (Diana Rigg). Before her marriage is to take place, Margery and her grandmother want to know the truth about King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson). After recounting her father’s death, Sansa reveals that Joffrey is a monster. Margery realizes that in order to manipulate King Joffrey, she has to sink to his level of cruelty.

Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) and her two companions find themselves lost in the woods. The three are found by the Brotherhood Without Banners. At a tavern, The Brotherhood offer them food and drinks before letting them leave. Things don’t end up so well by Arya when she is suddenly spotted by The Hound (Rory McCann).

What’s going to happen to Arya and Jaime after they have been discovered by their enemies? Will Bran discover the meaning behind his black magic dreams? Fans will just have to wait and see what happens in the next episode of “Game of Thrones.”
